The Guarnaccino Vineyards in the Pollino National Park
THE VINEYARD
GUARNACCINO
The name Guarnaccino evokes the ancient grape varieties Guarnaccia and Vernaccia, terms used by the Romans to identify local black and white grapevines in different regions of Italy. Thanks to in-depth ampelographic studies conducted by our expert winegrowers, Guarnaccino has been recognised as a rare and precious native variety. We were the first to cultivate and vinify it.
The cultivation of Guarnaccino follows the principles of classical viticulture. Being a variety resistant to parasites, it is very close to natural viticulture, thus preserving its organoleptic characteristics. This vine offers wines with a pronounced acidity, which gives Guarnaccino a distinctive and surprising character. The clay and mineral-rich soil of the Chiaromonte area, and particularly of our estate, enriches the wine with complex and fascinating aromatic notes. Let yourself be enveloped by an explosion of aromas: ripe black fruits intertwined with seductive spices that will captivate you with every sip.
THE HISTORY
FROM THE ANCIENT ENOTRI
The Guarnaccino Nero di Chiaromonte vine has a rich history rooted in ancient Enotria, known as the “land of vines.” This region included the territories of Basilicata, the Cilento area of Campania, and Calabria between the 8th and 4th centuries BC.
At our estate, you can explore the fascinating history of the Enotri people, an ancient Italic civilisation that inhabited Lucania, now the region of Basilicata.
The Enotri, one of the first ethnic groups to settle in the region, were skilled farmers and above all great winegrowers. Their culture developed between the 10th and 8th centuries BC, and their presence dates back to before Greek colonisation.
HOW WE VINIFY
our philosophy
Our winery is passionately dedicated to the production of red and rosé wines from Guarnaccino in purity, the unique native vine of Chiaromonte, in Basilicata. Choosing vinification in purity means preserving the authenticity of Guarnaccino, enhancing its natural characteristics without the influence of other grape varieties. While remaining faithful to tradition, we do not rule out the idea of experimenting with new techniques and combinations.
Our philosophy is based on the perfect balance between respect for the vine and openness to innovation.
Curated Ageing
for Character Wines
Our wines stand out thanks to a carefully selected ageing process, which varies according to the type and the desired character of each label. We primarily use steel silos to preserve the freshness and purity of aromas, and small wooden barrels to add greater complexity and structure. This deliberate choice allows us to enhance the unique features of Guarnaccino, creating wines that range from bold and full-bodied to lighter and easy-to-drink options.
A Company
in Constant Evolution
Guided by the experience and creativity of our oenologist, Andrea Bernardini, we are a dynamic company constantly oriented towards improvement. We are consistently engaged in studying new vinification techniques to meet the needs of an evolving market, which includes a young audience attentive to quality.
Our goal is to offer not only wines with a strong and distinctive character, but also ideal options for aperitifs and informal moments of conviviality. We want every sip of our wines to tell a story of territory, tradition and innovation, winning over both the most demanding palates and those approaching the world of wine with curiosity and lightness.
